2. Dreamweaver CS3 399

Recommended for professionals and advanced users - Not recommended for newbies.
Dreamweaver is by far the preferred software for professional web designers. It's the most powerful web design program on the market. The program is also up to date with the best interfaces and templates. Dreamweaver has support for ALL tech including PHP, Mysql. The CSS support of the new CS3 version is the best.
Disadvantages: Dreamweaver requires a steep learning curve and it is expensive. Dreamweaver is too sophisticated and complicated for newbies and most intermediate designers. If you're a non-techie or beginner, you'll get frustrated with Dreamweaver If you don't want to spend the time learning Dreamweaver, or have a low frustration tolerance, get Xsitepro, because it's much more user friendly.
I recommend Dreamweaver for professional web designers and advanced users only.

FrontPage

FontPage was easier than Dreamweaver for beginners to design a site, but the code wasn't clean at all. FrontPage generated redundant and messy code, and all kinds of user UNfriendly scripting.
As a web designer, when someone asks me to revise a web site that was designed in FrontPage, I turn the work down because I run into too many incompatibilities. I either totally redesign the site from scratch in Dreamweaver or I won't work on it.
FrontPage used to be popular for beginners and was hated by professional designers. Stay away from old FrontPage versions.
Expression Web

There is a new Studio Suite replacing FrontPage, called Expression Web. Microsoft dropped the name "FrontPage" entirely and is promoting Expression Web as a complete new application.
I have not tried Express Web but my research indicates that it is very limited and strictly designed for ASP and Windows based server environments. No PHP. Unfriendly to Unix environments.
$299 individually; $99 when upgrading from FrontPage to Expression Web. More information at http://www.microsoft.com/Expression/products/overview.aspx
